The best teams in Euro 2024: Matchday 1

We are now one day away from the Euro 2024 games, and it is fair to say that it has exceeded expectations.

We've seen incredible performances (Jamal Musiala vs Scotland), stunning wins (Romania beat Ukraine 3-0) and plenty of great kits being handed out for their tournament debuts (France's pinstripe away kit).

And after all that fun, here's our pick of the best Euro 2024 teams so far.

Switzerland quickly dismissed all football hipster cries of 'Hungary is the dark horse of Euro 2024' by beating them 3-1 in Cologne last week.

For that, we thank them.

The hour is coming, a great man is coming.

The Netherlands struggled in their first game against a determined Polish side, but Wout Weghorst's appearance off the bench turned the game in his side's favor, scoring a 2-1 win.

With France next up, that win could be crucial to the Dutch team's hopes of making the knockout rounds.

Hands up, who thought Romania would be this good?

Put your hands down, no one does.

Edward Iordanescu's team played well in their 3-0 win over Ukraine, scoring three great goals and playing some amazing football.

They are the ones to watch… surprisingly.

It was only a 2-1 victory for Albania in the end, but there were many positives for Italy to take away from the game at Signal Iduna Park.

One way the centre-backs looked strong, another was the play of Nicolo Barella in the middle of the park, and the other was the creativity of Federico Chiesa.

They look good.

A win is a win, but it's hard to say that England were more impressive against Serbia.

The midfield conundrum will always worry Gareth Southgate, but at least he will take solace in their defensive strength and the brilliance of Jude Bellingham.

The joint favorites for Euro 2024, like England, secured a 1-0 victory on the first day of the match against an Austrian side that had lost twice in the previous 12 months on Monday night.

They may have to step up in the coming days, but they may have to do it without Kylian Mbappe after the new Real Madrid star broke his nose.

A 3-0 win for the third best soccer team in the world (as of the 2022 World Cup)?

Those are the most impressive things from Spain.

La Roja had good value in their 3-0 win as well, with Lamine Yamal playing superbly.

In particular, the player in charge of the league games was not ready under the pressure of opening the competition on Friday night.

Thanks to the brilliance of the prodigal duo Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala, Germany put Scotland to the sword – winning 5-1 at the Allianz Arena.

They could be the new favorites to win the entire tournament after the first day of play.
