WATCH: 'Worst golf day of my life' – Average Joe reveals how hard it is to play Pinehurst No. 2

Golfers will soon be flocking back to the famous Pinehurst resort to play their infamous No. 2 course.
It's a structure that offers very little forgiveness to the wayward shooter unless he gets caught and, more importantly, stops the wrong shot.
In some cases, this may see a mid-range drive get you closer to the green, but you're almost guaranteed to have a terrible lie on the fairway or in the sandy dirt.
If you were watching the US Open on TV and thought, how hard can it be, you need to check out this video from 'regular' golf promoter Birdogey.
What makes Pinehurst No. 2 so hard to play?
“It's just a very difficult test. It's tough,” said former US Open winner Geoff Ogilvy.
“Actually, it's not like the usual US Open because it doesn't depend on being small (and) hard for a long time. It is quite wide. But you can see from the pictures that it's worse if you miss the mowed area, you're in a sandy, long, tall grass area. Lots of sand everywhere.
“But the real challenge at Pinehurst No. 2 that all vegetables and sauces are upside down. They chase the ball in four directions. On almost all 18 greens, if you look at the edge of the green, the ball will be off the green.
“That makes you really nervous, it makes you nervous. You really start to aim between the vegetables and they start to look smaller and smaller. Just an experiment, never ending. It keeps coming to you.
“It's like it was built for the US Open and the USGA, Pinehurst No. 2,” said Ogilvy. “You can play 365 (days a year) at Pinehurst No. 2 and have the US Open. That's kind of it. It's always difficult.”
Wyndham Clark said of the structure as it stands in 2024: “I mean, they're very fast. If they are stronger and faster, the vegetables, I mean, will be the limits. They are already at the border.”
He added: “I find myself climbing six meters, six to seven meters. A common theme in our group. I mean, a lot of guys took off the green. A lot of guys hit putts, they're like, 'Oh, my gosh'. Of course the defense right now (from a low-scoring streak) is a vegetable. “
