Kane feels England are falling below average after Denmark's defeat

The captain of England, Harry Kane, believes that everyone dropped in their standards following the disappointing 1-1 draw with Denmark.

The Three Lions went into this game knowing that a win would put them in the play-offs, but they weren't racing.

Despite taking the lead through Kane, England stayed behind and were punished when Morten Hjulmand, who scored a great shot and put it into the net outside the box, was not able to find a winner.

England has fallen below its level

Southgate named a squad unchanged from the win against Serbia, and although England took the lead they looked for pace rather than pace.

As has become the norm under Southgate, England sat back and dropped deeper and deeper after scoring instead of going for the kill, and were duly punished.

The team looked uneven, especially in midfield where Declan Rice and Trent-Alexander Arnold really struggled, while the attack didn't click with Kane, Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka all substituted with 20 minutes to go.

England endured a difficult time against Denmark.

England came under a lot of criticism for their performance and Kane admitted after the game that everyone fell below their level.

“I think we are struggling against the ball and we don't have it,” he told BBC Sport.

“I think the pressure in these two games was not good and the football was not good enough.

“Everybody falls a little below their standards. It was tough out there, but we stayed calm. It wasn't our big game but we came away with a point.”

England sit top of the group with four points and will almost qualify for the knockout rounds, but their performance in the first two games is a cause for concern, and a better performance against Slovenia on Tuesday evening is required.
