Previews, predictions and team news

The opening match of Copa America 2024 is finally here as defending champions, Argentina, will face Canada in the first match of Group A.

For the first time since 2016, the Copa America will be spread across the United States and feature qualified CONCACAF teams, including Canada, against 10 CONMEBOL teams. Ahead of the tournament, Argentina, Canada, Chile, and Peru are drawn in Group A, and Canada has the unfortunate fortune of playing the 2021 winners in their Copa America debut.

Canada's lack of experience in this tournament is in stark contrast to Argentina's dominance in the Copa America. Lionel Messi has just lifted Argentina's 15th Copa America title in the past two years, and he will look to lead his side to a strong start against Jesse Marsch's side in La Albiceleste's bounce-back campaign.

Here it is 90 min Argentina vs Canada guide tomorrow.

Argentina head into this summer's Copa America having won both of their competitions in convincing fashion, extending their unbeaten run to five.

Enzo Fernandez and Lisandro Martínez have recovered from their injuries and are fully fit for the tournament, giving Lionel Scaloni some decisions to make in midfield and at the back. Including Martínez in the starting XI will separate World Cup-winning centre-backs Nicolás Otamendi and Cristian Romero.

Meanwhile, Julián Álvarez will look to cement himself as Argentina's number 9 this summer after a string of impressive performances for Lautaro Martínez.

Argentina predicted to face Canada (4-3-3): E. Martinez; Molina, Romero, Otamendi, Tagliafico; De Paul, Paredes, Mac Allister; Messi, Alvarez, Di Maria

To call Canada the underdogs in Group A is an understatement. Jesse Marsch has only been in charge for a month, and the manager is yet to get his first win. Canada also failed to score in their last two friendlies ahead of Copa America 2024.

However, they have great talent on the pitch, including Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies and Lille's Jonathan David. Even if Canada managed to steal a point from the Copa America and World Cup champions, it would be considered an upset.

Canada predicted to face Argentina (4-4-2): crepe; Johnston, Bombito, Cornelius, Davies; Buchanan, Eustaquio, Kone, Millar; David, Larin

As good as Alphonso Davies was, he wasn't enough to get Canada on the winning side of the game against Argentina. La Albiceleste are coming off a 4-1 win over Guatemala without playing their original starting XI; Argentina should make easy work of the first-time Copa America participants with the whole country watching.

Prediction: Argentina 3-1 Canada
