Peru will face Chile in the second match of the Copa America 2024, which has a big impact on how Group A will play this tournament.

Chile, along with Argentina, come into the tournament as favorites to advance to Group A. The 2015 and 2016 champions may be without Arturo Vidal and Gary Medel this year, but La Roja still have plenty of leadership in Alexis Sanchez and Claudio Bravo.

Peru comes into this game probably knowing a good result here puts the team in a good position to advance. The win in particular puts FIFA's 32nd-ranked team in a comfortable position to qualify.

As mentioned, Peru enters the tournament as the 32nd ranked team in the FIFA world rankings. The team also has MLS representatives and goalkeepers Pedro Gallese and Orlando City teammate Wilder Cartagena, as well as Atlanta United defender Luis Abram. The only player in the tournament squad without a national team title is goalkeeper Diego Romero.

Peru's key to a good result will be defensive resilience.

Alexis Sanchez and Claudio Bravo are playing in what could be their last Copa America. Aged 35 and 41 respectively, they are the two team leaders Medel and Vidal who were not selected for this tournament. For anyone with superstitions, Chile lifted the Copa America title the last time the tournament was hosted in America.

Chile predicted to face Peru (4-2-3-1): Bravo; Suazo, Diaz, Maripan, Isla; Pulgar, Nunez; Valdes, Sanchez, Davila; Vargas

This will be a hotly contested issue. Both teams have to play Argentina and Canada next. Peru and Chile won't feel like they can get anything from the Argentina game, of course, but to be honest this should be a win to help secure a place in the knockout stages. As the game continues and neither team has made the cut so far, that competitive feeling and feeling of not losing the game can begin.

Chile has beaten Peru twice 2-0 since the beginning of this decade, but Peru won in 2021 with the same result.

Prediction: Peru 0-1 Chile
