JACK Catterall and Regis Prograis will clash on August 24 at Manchester Co-Op Live. A 140-pound fight against two-time world champion Prograis is the perfect reward for Catteral, who got revenge on Josh Taylor last month.
The southpaw fight will further test Jack's world-class credentials in what will be the Co-Op's first ever indoor boxing show.
Opponent Taylor lost his first career WBSS final to Prograis back in 2019. Regis last appeared in a major defeat to Devin Haney in late 2023 but will look to Catterll's scalp as a way back to the top.
That won't bother 'El Gato' who is willing to face the best rather than stay rusty.
“I've waited for big fights in the past, I've been waiting for a title shot and it's caused me a lot of unemployment,” said Catterll.
“I will never do that again. I asked Eddie Hearn and Sam Jones for the best fight available on August 24th and as soon as they mentioned Regis Prograis I said yes right away. We were meant to fight a while back and it fell; but now we have a chance to put it in the ring on August 24.
“I don't want to sit on the sidelines and I won't do that again. Regis Prograis is a professional wrestler and is coming off the back of a huge PPV World Title fight against Devin Haney. He's a two-time world champion, he's been here in the UK before, he's had life and death with Josh Taylor, and I'm looking forward to sharing the ring with such a great hero.”
New Orleans' 'Rougarou' Prograis feels the fight is overdue after seeing his name linked to the Chorley man for a while.
“This is the fight I've been looking for,” said Prograis. “We should have fought a few years ago but it happened. Now is the perfect time. I consider Jack one of the best in the world at 140lbs.
“It's a good fight because Jack is determined to become a world champion and I'm looking to become a three-time world champion. Plus, I'm excited to be back in the UK.”
Promoter Eddie Hearn added: “Jack Catterall is very competitive and Regis Prograis needs to make a statement in this fight, I think it will be interesting.
“I'm also excited to give this amazing new arena its first live boxing event and it's going to be a great show from top to bottom on August 24.”
