The Brighton winger on loan from Ipswich Town scored the opening goal for Ecuador
Despite being the man down, Ecuador scored the opening goal in their Copa América match against Venezuela on Saturday afternoon at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Ecuador's captain, Enner Valencia, was sent off in the 22nd minute after a brutal blow to the chest which resulted in him being sent off with a straight red card. However, La Tri will break the scoreless streak thanks to Brighton & Hove Albion's winner Jeremy Sarmiento in the 40th minute leading 1-0.
Sarmiento joined Brighton in 2021 and spent last season on loan at Ipswich Town.
