DeMar DeRozan's Bulls Future in Doubt: Report
DeMar DeRozan looked set to retire with the Bulls, that is until the Josh Giddey-Alex Caruso trade happened.
The 34-year-old veteran will be a free agent this summer after three seasons in Chicago.
A few weeks ago, DeMar was reportedly ready to re-sign with the franchise.
But this week, the Bulls made a shocking trade, dealing Caruso to OKC and acquiring young guard Giddey and saying goodbye to their best defender.
The trade may have derailed DeRozan's plans, as he now plans to hear from his rivals, C/P's Brett Siegel reports.
“The belief going into the last month of the regular season was that DeMar DeRozan would get a similar deal with the Chicago Bulls after being offered a two-year, $80 million contract by the team,” Siegel said. “After the Bulls continued to trade Alex Caruso for Josh Giddey, a move that left many in the league scratching their heads, DeRozan's future is now unclear.
Rival teams expect DeRozan to hear some advice from him when the free agency period begins on June 30, which could lead to a move away from Chicago. As Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported in May, the Clippers would be a very interesting destination for DeRozan if they were to lose George this offseason.”
DeRozan averaged 24 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists for the Bulls in 2023-24 and could be a useful veteran for many teams, including the Lakers, Heat and 76ers.
