The talented young Englishman has impressed in his time in the Premier League so far, and looks set to have a huge future at the highest level of the game.
Man Utd have already seen a £35million bid rejected by Everton for Branthwaite, according to the Liverpool Echo, who add that the Red Devils are expected to make another bid for the 21-year-old.
Branthwaite is a key player for Everton, so this deal won't come cheap, but at the same time the Toffees' financial problems mean they will be tempted to sell to stay on the right side of the Premier League's profits. and Sustainability rules this summer.
EFC suffered a disqualification last season for this reason, so selling a homegrown player like Branthwaite could end up being a serious business for them, even if it would be a blow to lose such an important member of their first team.
Branthwaite transfer: Man United to try again for Everton defender
United, meanwhile, are in dire need of a top-flight signing for a defender, and Branthwaite would be an ideal option for them now and in the future.
It remains to be seen whether they can come up with an offer that Everton will be happy with, but it seems worth another try for the youngster, who could be the perfect long-term replacement for an aging Harry Maguire at full back.
Erik ten Hag also needs a replacement for Raphael Varane, meaning at least one, but possibly two full-backs are needed at Old Trafford this summer.
Jean-Clair Todibo was keen to join United, but that deal is now off the table due to rules regarding players swapping between clubs with the same owners while both compete in the same European competition.
