REGIONAL OPEN RESULTS – Golf News

Around 2,000 novice and professional golfers took part in the Regional Qualifying for the 2024 Open Championship yesterday (June 24), with only 100 players progressing to the Final Qualifying on July 2.

There were 15 Regional Championships across the country, with South East regional events held in Rochester & Cobham, Moor Park, Bearwood Lakes, Ferndown and North Hants.

Royal Blackheath coach Freddie Price led the field to Rochester & Cobham with an 8-under-par 63. Price finished ahead of Thanet's Max Orrin (The Drift) and Canterbury's Josh Bristow, who is training for the PGA at Queenwood Golf Club in Surrey. Faversham's Robin Wells and Rochester & Cobham's Warren Wood also finished after finishing on 4-under-par.

The next seven are tied for the bottom three, meaning the final two places will be sorted. Nevill Golf Club's Jonathan Exon-Taylor and Chart Hills' Nicholas Olson both qualified. Among those who missed the play-off were Matt Ford and a trio of home golfers in Jack Lee, freshman Luke Jenkins and Jordan Godwin. Sene Valley's William Partner was also among the top seven in the play-offs, just missing out.

Sweden's Adam Wallin had a day to remember by paring a course record 63, with the help of two eagles on the back-9, during Moor Park in Hertfordshire. He was joined by American duo Nick Carlson and Ted Dougherty, Carl Enn Hellat from Estonia, Nick Woof and Matt Gauntlett from England, and Justin Harding from South Africa, who has two DP World Tou winners to his name.

Corey Sheppard and Dominic Knight set a five-under target at Ferndown. Luke Metcalf, Billy McKenzie and Timon Baltl finished a shot back, while Robbie Busher moved ahead at 3-under-par.

It took a big play-off North Hants to determine the final game, and Jake Sage eventually won the seventh after four players tied for seventh. Ryan Lumsden, James Cooper, Curtis Griffiths, Freddie Edmunds, David Rudd and Daniel Brown also won.

Portugal's Stephen Ferreira (-6) and Peru's Julian Perico (-6) led the day in low scoring Bearwood Lakes, as seven qualifying matches have been confirmed. They will be joined in the Final Qualifying by Daniel Gaunt, Benjamin Martin, Jack Floydd, Jack Kurzberg and Saptak Talwar.
