After Wes Unseld Jr. fired from his coaching job mid-season, the Washington Wizards asked (one of Unseld's assistants) Brian Keefe to fill in as interim head coach until the end of the season. Apparently, they were so happy with what he did during this time that they asked him to do it 26th coach of the franchise.
But how much did the Witches pay him to help them rebuild? In this article, we discuss that, his past coaching record, and much, too many.
Brian Keefe Contract and Salary
In May, the Wizards announced that Keefe would take over as head coach on a full-time basis. Unfortunately, the length or annual salary of the deal was not mentioned. The good news is that we can look at the salaries of past head coaches to find out where Fernandez ranks in terms of annual salary.
When he was signed by the Milwaukee Bucks, head coach Adrian Griffin was making $4 million a year. Meanwhile, Joe Mazzella of the Boston Celtics (another first-time coach) has agreed to a deal that pays him R4.7 million annually when he is promoted to full-time interim coach.
So, based on these two data points, we can assume that Keefe makes between four and five million dollars a year.
Brian Keefe Net Worth
There are currently no ratings for Keefe online. That will definitely change when he is in the public eye.
One can imagine that Fernandez has made a decent amount of money throughout his career, however, as the NBA is a lucrative endeavor, and he has been an assistant coach since 2007 (including playing with the Seattle SuperSonics, Oklahoma City Thunder, The New York Knicks, The Brooklyn Netsagain Los Angeles Lakers.
Prior to that, he was an assistant at the college level at South Florida and Bryant University.
Brian Keefe Coaching Record
In 39 games as the Wizards' interim coach, Keefe posted an 8-31 record (20.5%). Given that the Wizards are in the early stages of a rebuild, his coaching stats could be very concerning.
So far, Keefe has never been a head coach in a playoff series.
