NHL news: Red Wings, Predators, Sharks, Utah, and HHOF
The Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators made a small trade
The Detroit Red Wings: The Red Wings traded Andrew Gibson to the Nashville Predators for a 2024 second-rounder (Tampa Bay's first) and Jesse Kiiskinen.
Puck Pedia: Gibson is a right-handed defenseman drafted 42nd overall in the second round of the 2023 draft. Signed to a three-year entry-level contract with an AAV of $897,000.
Kiiskinen is a right winger drafted 68th overall in the third round of the 2023 draft. He is not signed
Max Bultman: “The Red Wings trade last year's second-rounder Gibson for a second-rounder in this draft (53rd overall) and last year's third-rounder Kiiskinen. He has 10 points in 38 games in Liiga. 6 ft on the right wing.”
Eduardo A. Encine: The Predators acquired a second-round pick from the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Tanner Jeannot trade.
David Johnson: “It's always curious when you see a team trade a player they drafted one year ago to get another candidate. I think Gibson has a chance to be a solid defenseman in the NHL. “
The Detroit Red Wings are sending a defenseman to the San Jose Sharks
The Detroit Red Wings: The Red Wings traded defenseman Jake Walman and a 2024 second-round pick (TB) for future consideration.
Sheng Peng: League source on Red Wings sending Wallman to Sharks: “Yzerman needed cap space…great opportunity for Wallman.”
David Pagnotta: “#SJsharks they wanted to add to their blue line this summer. They get Wallman now, and they get the second by eating his $3.4M cap hit. We expect a lot more from Grier this week.”
Max Bultman: “Obviously, the Red Wings were eager to move money and make room for D. And Yzerman left vague about Walman's role in his press release on Friday. But I never thought they would need to stick a pick to get rid of him. It's definitely an amazing trade.”
The Utah Hockey Club has re-signed Vladislav Kolyachonok
Puck Pedia: The Utah Hockey Club has extended defenseman Vladislav Kolyachonok to a two-year contract.
2024-25: $775,000 salary, plus $125,000 for children.
2025-26: $775,000 one way.
