Mexican fighter Brandon Benitez has arrived in South Florida and is already lined up for a historic fight this Saturday, June 29, against former world champion and Olympic medalist Robeisy Ramirez at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Fla.
Benitez and his team shared moments with world champion Teofimo Lopez when they arrived. Both fighters wished each other luck in their fights. Lopez will be in tonight's main event presented by Top Rank and televised by ESPN when he defends his title against Steven Claggett of Canada.
Helder Medina, Benitez's second coach, is very confident in the work done so far with Brandon. “We are in the week of weight loss, this morning we were examined by a doctor who indicated that everything is less than what we had planned,” he said. Benitez's physical and technical strategy is managed by coaches Medina and Cummings.
Benitez came to Florida with the goal of winning this fight and getting a chance to fight for the featherweight title. “It's not an easy job,” Cummings said. “Those who want to reach the top in this game must overcome challenges like the one we will face on Saturday. We respect Ramirez's abilities, and that's why Brandon came prepared for the tournament.”
Ricardo Cumings is convinced that Brandon is ready for a world title fight. “First of all, I want to thank Top Rank and Ramirez's team for giving us this opportunity. We know the quality and experience of Robeisy, and we are coming to Florida with the best preparations that will give the fans a great show and make a tangible impact,” he said.
“We respect Robeisy's team, the rookies, and his coach Ismael Salas, but this is our time, and we will put Brandon Benitez's name on the line to fight for the world title. Benitez is at a high level and we will have no excuses if we lose, but I have no doubt that we will go out on June 29 with our hands raised,” Cummings added.
For now, things are going the best way for both fighters to arrive in the best physical shape of their careers on Saturday night. Robeisy has already told his fans that his return will be “legendary,” and that sets expectations high as both understand the importance of this fight.
Brandon, on the other hand, looks calm and composed. “I didn't come to see if I could; I came because I can,” said Benitez when asked about the most important fight in his short life.
We keep thinking that if Ramirez is given a better chance in Miami, that adds more ingredients to this fight so that in the end it will be fans who come away with a win when they see two fights that want to succeed.
