After extensive planning, the reimagined short course is the creation of five new USGA-specific greens and greenside bunkers, each mirroring the same green layout on the main course at Cowdray.
In addition, a new short game area has been delivered, complete with a new practice green and dormitory.
Cowdray has created a new Academy membership category for the Par-3 Course, which they hope will resonate with the local community and those interested in learning the game. Membership includes unlimited play on the Par-3 Course, use of practice facilities, and special rates for driving range and introductory golf lessons. Prices start at £300, with visitor green fees starting at £10 for juniors.
The par-3 layout was opened by the Cowdray greens team – led by course manager Jonathan Smith – who were the first to experience the course they have worked so hard to master.
The new Par-3 Course and practice facilities are the result of a significant golf planting and development program at Cowdray, which has seen Swan Golf Designs – led by William Swan – oversee the transformation of its 18-hole course.
The most notable changes are in the underground structures, all of which have been rebuilt, reorganized and integrated with the ground floor through the use of traditional grass borders. A new tee has been constructed and EcoPath's sensitive recycled rubber treads have been installed throughout.
Elsewhere, Swan Golf Designs has created a new 'heart of the course' by restoring the famous double greens of the seven and 14 holes, building a new residential half-house and overseeing the landscaping throughout.
