Cain Sandoval returns to action to face Romero Duno on Aug. 31 in California
Cain Sandoval has shown that he can box in his last two fights. Now he is about to face his toughest battle so far.
Sandoval will face rival Romero Duno on August 31, 360 Boxing Promotions announced. The 10-round fight will take place at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, California and will headline the Hollywood Fight Nights card (UFC Fight Pass, 9:30 pm ET/ 6:30 pm PT).
“We are very excited to announce our return to the Chumash Casino Resort with this huge and exciting event,” said promoter Tom Loeffler. “Cain Sandoval has continued to show world-class skills to become a future world champion and, on August 31, he faces another tough test against upset Romero Duno.
“As our June 7 event at Chumash Casino sells out before fight week begins, I strongly encourage fans to purchase tickets early to ensure they don't miss out on this great show. We'll have great fights to announce soon for another action-packed edition of Hollywood Fight Nights. The event will also be broadcast on UFC Fight Pass and we are very grateful to Dana White and his team for their support.”
Sandoval (13-0, 11 knockouts), who lives in Sacramento, California, defeated former contender and rookie Javier Molina by unanimous decision on February 23. Molina's win snapped an 11-fight winning streak.
In his last fight on April 20, Sandoval defeated Angel Rebollar by unanimous decision. The 21-year-old, who is coming off a knockout victory over the previously beaten Wesley Ferrer, has shown improved skill over the past few months, but is determined to start a knockout loss against Duno.
“It's been a long time since I was beaten (to win),” said Sandoval, who is managed by Oscar Sanchez. “On Saturday, August 31, a new playoff tournament will begin.”
Duno (26-4, 20 KOs), who hails from Cotabato City in the Philippines and now resides in Miami, Florida, last fought on January 31, losing by knockout to Antonio Moran. Moran's loss spanned two fights since his loss to Frank Martin in January 2022.
The 28-year-old made his debut in March 2017 with a second-round knockout over then-undefeated Christina Gonzalez. Duno was released by Ryan Garcia in November 2019.
Duno believes he has the experience to get a sneaky win over Sandoval.
“This fight is the most important fight in my life, so I will give and do everything to win,” said Duno who is promoted by Laura Ching. “I am a warrior and what makes me fight is to win.
