Chelsea 'reach deal' with Ipswich over £22m winner
Chelsea have agreed a deal to sell Omari Hutchinson to Ipswich Town for £22m, according to several reliable reports.
Hutchinson spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Tractor Boys and was one of their key players in their promotion from the Championship to the Premier League, contributing ten goals and six assists in their second-place finish.
However, Hutchinson's path back to a regular place at Chelsea appears to be narrow, and reports earlier this summer suggested the Blues would consider selling him, even if they were wary of taking out another loan.
Fabrizio Romano for the first time on Friday evening that Ipswich have agreed a £22m fee to re-sign Hutchinson permanently.
The deal will include a sell-on clause but Chelsea will not retain an option to buy. Arsenal would also benefit from a deal to sell him to the Blues in 2022 with their own sell-on clause.
German side Stuttgart, who finished second in the Bundesliga last season and will compete in the Champions League next year, were also interested in Hutchinson, but he will head to Portman Road.
Hutchinson will leave Chelsea having played just two games for the club.
Ipswich are busy preparing for their first Premier League season in 22 years having secured back-to-back promotions from League One. They have been linked with the likes of Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah and Hull City defender Jacob Greaves in the past few months.
Manager Kieran McKenna held talks with Chelsea, Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion before deciding to stay at Ipswich. He signed a new long-term contract in May.
