Teofimo LOpez On a possible Gervonta Davis-Vasyl Lomachenko SHowdown: “I think Tank edges it”
Written by: Sean Crose
Teofimo Lopez has business to attend to on Saturday night as he faces Steve Claggett in Miami in defense of his WBO junior welterweight title. However, he has been asked to consider other issues, such as a possible big fight between Gervonta Davis and Vasyl Lomachenko. “I believe Tank will be nervous if he goes to war,” Lopez said kindly The hub of combat. “Loma will show his skills. Tank will try to knock him down. Loma needs to go find the body. Tank will try to hurt him by hunting him in the head, throwing his favorite gun that he likes to throw, which is his left hand.”
Still, the hard-hitting Brooklynite said Loma's age and hard work may work in his favor. “It feels like if it goes the distance the Tank wins,” Lopez said. “I like the person from Loma, I mean he was a strong fight when I faced him, I will say that. However, I feel that he is not the same as before.”
Lopez was quick to point out, however, that Davis needs to get better when he faces Loma in the ring. “The amount of punch that Tank showed to Frank Martin – he was losing every round,” Lopez said. “He was just waiting for that big shot. If he fights like that, Loma wins because Loma won't wait for that big shot….however, if they want that fight it's because they believe Tank should beat him just because Loma is on his way out. “
The main point?
“I think Tank gets it done,” Lopez said.
That being said, the fighter known as “The Takeover” was eager to talk about his exciting fight with Claggett on Saturday night. “I look forward to making a true statement,” he said. “I have everything it takes to win like a true champion.” And while it's true that the 20-1 fighter is expected to beat the 38-7-2 Claggett, Lopez wouldn't just beat his opponent this weekend, describing Claggett as “my first orthodox fighter in a long time.”
For Lopez, it's all about staying busy. Being the best means a lot to a 26-year-old. As long as he gets past Claggett this weekend, as expected, the junior welterweight roster aims to keep the calendar full. “The next (war) should be in September, God willing,” he said. “We're just doing what we have to do on Saturday night. I can't count my chickens before they hatch.”
