The Rangers star agrees to the “stars” proposal to leave Ibrox and join Gerrard
Rangers' “unique” player has agreed an “extreme” deal to leave Ibrox this summer and join up with former manager Steven Gerrard, according to a new update.
A summer of change at Rangers
Euro 2024 may have taken center stage in the world of football, but Philippe Clement has had the most productive summer transfer window so far, which has already brought in many new faces.
The likes of Jefte, Connor Barron, Liam Kelly and Clinton Nsiala have all secured full deals, while Oscar Cortes will spend another season on loan at Ibrox, having arrived at Lens in the January window.
It looks like Rangers' business is not done yet, as striker Hamza Igamane is seen as the next man to come in, joining the Moroccan outfit AS FAR.
The Scottish Premiership giants are also being linked with Tottenham player Ryan Sessegnon, who has matured his career after appearing as a very exciting youngster, but who may be looking for a new challenge. He is seen as someone who can provide more quality than Cortes, too.
This has been a summer of change when it comes to exits for Rangers, with a number of players moving on when their contracts expire, from Ryan Jack to Kemar Roofe. Now, another exit claim has emerged – and one that is likely to worry supporters.
“Exceptional” Rangers hero on the journey
According to a new development courtesy of Football InsiderJames Tavernier has agreed to leave Rangers and join Gerrard at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, with an “atmospheric” deal on the table.
The update says “the package in question is believed to 'significantly increase' the Gers captain's wages, and the player himself has “accepted a contract deal”.
This is no doubt bad news for Rangers fans, given that Tavernier has been the most impressive player at Ibrox over the years, providing an incredible amount of product from right-back.
Admittedly, England's numbers are helped by the fact that he scores penalties, but the number of 125 goals and 129 assists in 460 games is the kind of statistics a striker would be happy to register in his career. Clement played for him last season after recording the highest number of assists for a British defender:
“To be there at the top – it's an amazing achievement and we're all proud of him. I said it in the dressing room and after the game. I don't usually single out players, I don't like it too much, but I had to do it this time. All the players are proud of him, all the staff and fans and everyone associated with Rangers.

The update comes from reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.
At 32, Tavernier isn't young, so optimists would point out that Rangers are getting a good deal for an older player, but it will be very difficult to replace him, both in terms of quality and leadership.
