WATCH: A major winner shares the worst golf advice he's ever received

Three-time winner Padraig Harrington shared three clangers when it comes to golf advice.

These are all things that many people pass by as great golf wisdom.

The best golf advice is probably not to listen to bad advice.

The temptation is very real, but the average golfer should avoid trying to help others when they are only a hindrance.

Harrington was asked about the best advice he ever received but instead focused on giving advice in general.

“I really don't know which one is the best that I have because there are all kinds of things that are very important in your life that are important,” he said. “It's probably easy to get the worst advice.”

Harrington then listed three tips that can do more harm than good.

Keep your feet still

At higher levels, it becomes less and less likely that your feet are stationary during the swing as moving feet are the best way to generate power.

You can hit the ball forward if you can properly connect your feet to the ground during the swing. One of the most important ways to help players generate power is this thing, also called “low reaction force.”

Keep your head still

“Keep your head down” is one of the first pieces of advice that ignorant people will give you if you're having trouble communicating. The advice is well-intentioned, and it makes sense: if you keep your head down longer, you'll maintain better communication by keeping your eye on the ball.

However, this proposal does not sound practical. An extended head position will hinder your swing ability and may also interfere with your coordination.

Swipe easily

Another common tip for those who struggle to hit the ball consistently is to slow down. It seems logical that a slower clubhead movement would increase the chances of good contact.

Yes, it is possible, but the cost of energy production will also be very high. Start by learning how to swing the club with power. After that, you can focus on making connections. Power is a powerful tool that is hard to master but once it clicks your game will soar.
