Biggest Lakers Free Agency Rumors

The Lakers are a hot topic as free agency begins, so we've rounded up the top rumors and talking points. Here's everything you need to know:

KLAY THOMPSON

There has been a lot of buzz surrounding Klay Thompson potentially joining the Lakers, especially since ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that LeBron James made the call to hire him the minute free agency began.

“I was told that LeBron James called Klay Thompson when free agency opened at 18:00 ET, he contacted Klay Thompson,” Wojnarowski said on SportsCenter on Sunday. “What I am waiting for right now are these discussions, this discussion will start tomorrow. There probably won't be a decision tonight.”

Woj added that the Lakers, Clippers and Mavericks are “working to get involved in this”.

If LA can offer Thompson a price he's happy with, it seems like a very attractive option for him. The four-time champion grew up in LA and his father Mychal Thompson played for the purple and gold.

The likely move would also allow Klay to continue enjoying the California lifestyle he seems to enjoy most, at least in terms of his social media career.

D'ANGELO RUSSELL TRADE

D'Angelo Russell opting out of his contract gives the Lakers a viable trade chip, and according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, they'll be looking to use it.

“I've been told the Lakers will be aggressive in pursuing a potential trade [D’Angelo Russell],” reported Buha.

It remains to be seen which LA teams are involved (or hope to be involved) in trade talks surrounding Russell.

THAT MAY BE ADDED TO THE WING

The Lakers are looking for wing players and may want to acquire one player in a possible trade for D'Angelo Russell, according to Jovan Buha.

“There are good options out there,” Buha reported. “Wings like Portland's Jerami Grant, former Lakers Kyle Kuzma and Nets' Dorian Finney-Smith and Cam Johnson are expected to be available on the trade market, according to league sources.”

It's worth noting that these players aren't directly linked to the Lakers, but are potential candidates due to their potential availability and positional balance.
