Arda Guler equals Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney's record for most Euros

Arda Guler joined an exclusive club, shared only by two Manchester United legends, as Turkey beat Austria in Leipzig on Tuesday night at Euro 2024.

Merih Demiral's goals – the defender's first after 57 seconds was the fastest goal in the history of the European Championship's knockout stages – put Turkey in a comfortable position before the hour mark.

However, Michael Gregoritsch was able to reduce the deficit in the 66th minute, giving Ralf Rangnick a huge boost while sending off a few good fans inside the Red Bull Arena.

However, an exceptional save from Mert Gunok in stoppage time ensured Vincenzo Montella and his team progressed to the quarter-finals of this summer's tournament.

Real Madrid striker Guler played a key role in Turkey's victory by clearing two direct corners that Austria struggled to defend, leading directly to both of his side's goals.

And perhaps most importantly, after assisting Demiral to finish in the 59th minute, Guler became only the third player to score and assist in the same edition of the European Championship, joining Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Guler scored a stunning Euro 2024 goal in Turkey's 3-1 win over Georgia, 20 years after both Ronaldo and Rooney recorded their feats at Euro 2004.

Turkey will face the Netherlands in Berlin on Saturday evening. The winner of this match will face England or Switzerland in the semi-finals.
