England prepares for the quarter final of Euro 2024 with Ed Sheeran private gig
After beating Slovakia, Gareth Southgate's England were rocked by the sounds of Ed Sheeran in the quarter-finals, with the acclaimed singer not commenting that they were 'The A team' at Euro 2024.
Sheeran watched on from the pitch as the Three Lions grabbed a win in Gelsenkirchen last Sunday evening.
Ivan Schranz found the back of the net first, his goal looking like a long-time winner, before Jude Bellingham restored parity in a dramatic fashion. Harry Kane then scored in extra time to ensure England progressed to the last eight.
On Monday, Sheeran was filmed performing some of his biggest hits with the band after completing his recovery period. The 33-year-old Ipswich Town fan is used to playing for the Three Lions having produced some hits at St George's Park for the final Euros in 2021.
It remains to be seen how the close concert will affect the players, as fans will be hoping for a better performance against Switzerland on Saturday.
The Swiss reached the quarter-finals as they beat Italy 2-0 the day before the England match, with goals from Remo Freuler and Ruben Vargas.
Southgate faces the challenge of making changes now in contention, with star player Marc Guehi out of the Dusseldorf match due to a yellow card against Slovakia, and other players struggling with fatigue.
Ivan Toney impressed when he replaced Phil Foden, but is unlikely to replace Harry Kane in the starting line-up. On the other hand, Cole Palmer will also start on the bench.
