Maresca should finally bag the Chelsea flop who earns more than 2x more than Isak
Todd Boehly has raised a few eyebrows since taking over at Chelsea in 2022, spending more than £1bn on new signings in a bid to return the club to Premier League glory.
Many signings have attracted attention, including that of Moises Caicedo last summer, which cost £115m – a transfer that broke the British transfer record.
However, moves for the likes of Wesley Fofana have not been successful, with the Frenchman making just 20 appearances for the Blues since his £70m move to the club in the 2022/23 campaign.
Such signings have dried up the club, losing a lot of money in the process, so new manager Enzo Maresca needs to get rid of a lot of players to raise money if he wants to make any new additions to Stamford Bridge.
One player in particular could be axed, with the club desperately needing to cut ties with the talent, especially after underperforming at the ongoing Euros.
Romelu Lukaku's stats for Belgium against France
After joining the club for £97.5m a few years ago, striker Romelu Lukaku had high hopes of a successful second spell at the club, but it's safe to say he fell short of expectations.
He spent the last few campaigns on loan at Inter Milan and Roma, with his displays for his nation also failing to impress.
In Belgium's round of 16 defeat to France earlier this week, Lukaku was absent, struggling to keep hold of the ball and threatening goalkeeper Mike Maignan. The 31-year-old managed just 20 touches in 90 minutes, completing just seven of his 13 attempts.

Lukaku won just two of his ten duels – a success rate of just 20% – while also losing the ball 12 times, the most of any Belgian player.
He was then given a 4/10 performance rating by the Daily Mail – a reflection of his poor performance against Didier Deschamps' side.
His lackluster form around the world could be proof that he can't cut the highs, with the Blues needing to cut his huge wages in order to finance a move for the number nine.
How much does Romelu Lukaku earn at Chelsea
Despite being out of the club for over two years, Lukaku still commands a huge weekly salary, which he was given on his return to Stamford Bridge.
According to Capology, the striker earns an estimated £325k per week, making him the joint highest paid player at the club with Raheem Sterling.
His huge salary is laughable given his lack of impact on the Blues during his second spell, but even more so when compared to the one player linked with a move to the club.
Newcastle striker Alexander Isak has been heavily linked with a move to London in recent days, following a season on Tyneside in which the Swede scored 21 Premier League goals.
However, despite his good campaign, he only gets a small salary compared to Lukaku, taking home £120k-a-week, almost three times more than the Belgian.
Given Lukaku's poor showing in his country, coupled with his extortionate fee, Maresca must part ways with the 31-year-old player, the club has been able to cut its losses, while also financing the move to acquire one of the top medical players – such as. Isak – leading the Italian revolution.
