The Olympic boxing seeds have been revealed, one from Team GB

Written by Matt Bozeat

THE Olympic Games in Paris have passed.

Of the six Great Britain boxers who won, only Delicious Orie won the super-heavyweight title.

The 27-year-old from Small Heath ABC is No 2, behind Joshua Edwards (USA).

America has not produced a super-heavyweight Olympic champion since the introduction of the weight class in 1984 and Tyrell Biggs finished atop the podium in Los Angeles.

Bakhodir Jalolov, the defending champion from Uzbekistan, who defeated Frazer Clarke in the semi-finals en route to gold in Tokyo, is ranked No.4.

That puts Orie in a position to meet Jalolov in the semi-finals in Paris.

The International Olympic Committee explained that three of the four top seeds in each weight category were allocated to the winners of the Asian Games (Jalolov), the European Games (Orie) and the Pan-American Games (Edwards).

The remaining top four spots and No. 5 are allocated to the champions of the African Qualifying Tournament (Mourad Kadi of Algeria) and the Pacific Games (Teremoana Junior of Australia).

Number 7 is Kamshybek Kunkabayev from Kazakh southpaw who took bronze in Tokyo where he was beaten by Richard Torrez (USA).

Kunkabayev entered the finals of the Asian Games held in China last October where he was defeated by Jalolov.

Kunkabayev won the rounds on three judges' cards.

Jalolov has now won six of his nine bouts and the last by unanimous points decision.

Orie's form has been poor since winning gold at the European Games in Poland last June.

He was beaten by Italy's Diego Lenzi at the Boxam Championships in January, but the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist heading to Paris was boosted by a points win over Omar Shiha (Norway) in the Czech Republic last month.

Cindy Ngamba, from Bolton and the representative of the refugee team in Paris, has not yet been discovered, but she has won the No 7 and No 8 seeds, Atheyna Bylon and Lovlina Borgohain, this year.

Three Irish boxers have been seeded.

Harrington followed in Katie Taylor's footsteps

Reigning lightweight champion Kellie Harrington is number 3 at 60kgs.

The top seed is Yang Wenlu (China) and the number 2 is Beatriz Ferreira, the Brazilian whom Harrington knocked out in the final in Tokyo three years ago.

Ferreira heads to Paris as the IBF lightweight champion, having won the vacant belt in Liverpool in April with a technical points win over Yanina del Carmen Lescano.

At middleweight, Aoife O'Rourke comes in at number 2 behind Li Quan (China) and Jack Marley is number 7 at heavyweight.

Cuban heavyweight Julio Cesar la Cruz, aiming for a third Olympic gold in Paris, came in at number 4 and Adam Olaore was at number 5.

Based in the North East, Olaore represents Nigeria.
