Newcastle appoint Paul Mitchell as new sporting director
Premier League club Newcastle have appointed Paul Mitchell as their new sporting director.
The Magpies quickly moved on from Dan Ashworth – who left for Manchester United earlier in the week – and hired the former Monaco, RB Leipzig and Tottenham man.
Speaking on the club's website, Mitchell said: “It is with great pride that I accept the responsibility of becoming Newcastle United's new sporting director.
“I have seen the growth and ambition of the club recently. This, along with an amazing fan base, made the decision to join an easy one.
“I can't wait to start helping the organization continue to grow and compete for a long time in all areas of high-level football.”
There is a lot of work to be done at Newcastle this summer and they will already be sitting on some money following the sale of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson last week.

Reports suggest Newcastle are keen to strengthen in both attack and defence, despite adding Lloyd Kelly on a free transfer.
They missed out on a Champions League place last season but are determined to return to Europe's top competition.
And with Mitchell's help, they will be in a better position to challenge next season without Thursday night games in 2024-25.
Darren Eales, CEO of Newcastle United, added: “We are delighted to welcome Paul to Newcastle United.
“He brings a successful record and a lot of experience to the team.
“His extensive and varied experience in football leadership, culture change and recruitment means he is the right person to lead our sports department.
“We look forward to working with Paul and supporting him in our pursuit of long-term, continued success.”
