The Euro 2024 star is being approached personally by Liverpool manager Arne Slot
With new manager Arne Slot preparing to bring in fellow local Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpool are reportedly closing in on their first signing of the summer.
Slot is looking for new signings to improve the quality of the team and bring in players who will play his style of football.
The Reds finished third in the Premier League last season and failed to win the Europa League.
Their form over the last few months under former boss Jurgen Klopp has shown that new additions are needed to the squad in all positions.
The first signing of the new Liverpool manager could be his compatriot, who won the Bundesliga title with Bayer Leverkusen last season.
Slot is currently in close contact with Jeremie Frimpong over a move to Anfield, according to BILD.
This summer, the defender is likely to leave Bayer Levekusen for a reported fee of 40 million euros (£35 million).
In the 2023-24 season, the 23-year-old was one of Xabi Alonso's best players, helping Leverkusen to an unbeaten domestic campaign in which the Dutchman scored 14 goals and provided seven assists.
Given that Leverkusen only set a £35 million price tag for the star and that Slot knows his compatriot, signing the player shouldn't be too difficult.
Slot has apparently been in direct contact with the 23-year-old.
The Liverpool boss is in Germany to see the Netherlands through to the quarter-finals of the Euros and his presence there could help the Reds secure their first signing of the summer.
The Leverkusen player will give Liverpool a new attacking outlet
Frimpong would provide Liverpool with an attacking presence on the right and his full-back output is quite impressive.
Targeting Frimpong shows that Liverpool's new manager is looking to make the team more attacking in their approach.
It remains to be seen how the Reds manager will fit the player into his first team as on the right side of his players are both Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
