“We fight against any kind of discrimination.” Mauricio Sulaiman Defeats Ryan Garcia in the WBC

“Using my authority as president of the WBC,” said the head of the World Boxing Council Mauricio Sulaiman on social media Thursday night, “I hereby fire Ryan Garcia from any job in our organization.” Garcia, a fighter who has become famous for being controversial as he works with thunder, is reported to have taken to social media to speak badly of black people and Muslims. “We fight against any kind of discrimination,” Sulaiman continued. “I fear for Ryan ('s) health as he has refused many attempts to get help for mental health and substance abuse.”

Thursday's Fourth of July fireworks were the latest in a long line of high-profile incidents involving the wrestler known as “King Ry.” The 25-year-old often takes to social media with statements that can be seen as strange or offensive. His April victory over Devin Haney was turned into a no contest after it was discovered that Garcia was following a performance-enhancing drug in his system. Garcia was also recently arrested for vandalism in his hometown of California.

Indeed, Garcia's behavior has been so alarming that his parents spoke to the public themselves on Thursday.

“Our son has recently made statements that are inconsistent with his, or our family's, true character or beliefs,” the statement read. “Our family does not agree with any comments he has made about race or religion – they do not reflect who Ryan really is and how he was raised. Those who know Ryan can attest to this. Ryan has been open about his ongoing struggle with mental health over the years and as a family we are committed to making sure and encouraging him to get the help he needs to get through this challenging time and deal with his immediate and long-term health. We appreciate the continued support, prayers and sympathy.”
