Chelsea are very excited about the incoming signing of Renato Veiga, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano explaining that they rate him highly as an option in several different positions.
Specially speaking CaughtOffside in his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign Veiga from Basel, and that the €14-15m deal could be completed early next week.
Chelsea are happy to seal this smart signing for a young, underclass talent, with Romano expected to be able to cover at centre-back, on the left or in midfield, so Veiga looks set to fill the gap. roles in Enzo Maresca's group.
Chelsea fans will no doubt be delighted with the arrival of this great prospect for the future, with the Blues continuing to do well to identify and recruit some of the best young players from around the world.

“Renato Veiga is on his way to Chelsea for €14-15 million from FC Basel. He is considered someone who can play at center back, on the left or as a defensive midfielder, so he covers a lot of positions,” said Romano.
“Chelsea see Veiga as a talent with great potential, and available at a cheap price. He is the perfect profile of what they wanted and needed. There are no additions or sales because Chelsea chose to agree on a fixed fee of €14m believing it was good money for them.”
It will be interesting to see if Veiga goes straight into CFC's regular starting XI or if he is a future signing, but either way it looks like they got themselves a good deal on the cheap here.
Chelsea fans are used to seeing big money spent on ready-made superstars but this kind of long-term approach could prove to be sustainable once the project has started.
