Keegan Bradley has been unveiled as the US Ryder Cup captain for the 2025 games to be held at Bethpage Black in New York.
Bradley, who was controversially overlooked for captaincy by Zach Johnson for the 2023 games in Rome, was a surprise to fill the role, with Tiger Woods considered the favorite to be given the job.
However, Woods is understood to have removed himself from the position of captain on the grounds that his ongoing negotiations between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf will take up too much of his time before next September's games.
Woods has asked the PGA of America's Ryder Cup committee to allow him to reduce the number of responsibilities a captain must traditionally fulfill before matches, but it appears no consensus can be reached.
The 14-time major winner now looks certain to lead the US team on the road to Adare Manor in Ireland in 2027, when he will be 50 years old.
Bradley, just 38 years old, will be the youngest player ever to captain the US Ryder Cup team. He has played in the past two Ryder Cups, making his debut at Medinah in 2012, when the home team suffered a shock defeat after collapsing between the anthems on Sunday, and again at Gleneagles in 2014, when Team USA also lost. His personal score is 4 points in seven games, with 4 wins, three losses and no ties.

Bradley, who won the PGA Championship in 2011, and is a two-time winner on the PGA Tour in 2023, said: “I am incredibly excited to accept this opportunity to captain the US team at the 2025 Ryder Cup. I would like to thank the PGA of America Ryder Cup Committee for their confidence in me as we begin this journey to Bethpage Black.
“My interest and appreciation for a major club golf event has never been stronger. The Ryder Cup is unlike any other tournament in our sport, and this one will undoubtedly be special especially given the rich history and passionate spectators at this amazing course. I am looking forward to starting preparations for 2025.”
