James Richardson is a perfectionist who takes no shortcuts

Why did you start boxing and how old were you?

I started around 10 years old, my father wanted me to learn how to take care of myself and grow up healthy and fit. It wasn't a competition at all.

Who is your favorite striker of all time and why?

I couldn't pick one. I am greedy and love many people and styles.

What's the best fight you've seen, live or on TV?

Hagler vs Hearns on YouTube, a three round fight.

What is your best achievement in boxing so far?

Winning a national championship as a junior and England boxing.

Who is the toughest opponent you have faced and why?

I drove for England a very nice Welsh boy, he was two paces ahead of me all night.

What are your strengths and weaknesses as a boxer?

Energy is probably my work ethic, [weakness] it can be that I can be a bit too perfectionist at times and it can get me down.

What is your best boxing training advice?

There are no shortcuts, so don't even try to look for them.

What is your favorite food and restaurant?

I love food so I couldn't choose one; I can be anywhere in the world, I will not be hungry. I just love to eat, I will eat and try anything once.

Who are your best friends in boxing?

My father, Ricko, has been my coach since the beginning. The amount of hours we have spent training and just traveling from place to place for competition or training is unbelievable. You put in as much work as I ever did.

What other athlete would you like to be?

Usain Bolt, you bet he has some stories to tell.

What is one thing you would change about professional boxing?

Running around selling tickets, the stuff of nightmares.

Which actor would play you in the movie of your life?

Jason Statham with a wig. A small step with him.

Have you ever wondered? If so, who was the star?

Never get star struck but get a selfie with that LadBaby couple at a boxing show once. My mom loved them so she had to send her a picture.

When was the last time you cried, and why?

Last month though, personal things happened in life.

What is the best advice you ever received?

If you keep working hard, you have every chance to make it.

What's the worst rumor you've ever heard about yourself?

It's not such a rumor but you hear a lot of stories about yourself, about what kind of person you are and who you are. Scunthorpe is a small town.

Tell us something most people don't know about you.

I'm a big homeboy, I'd rather be at home with my family than anywhere else.
