James Nichols of New Jersey Hockey Now: Brenden Dillon signed with the New Jersey Devils is the start of free agency. The Devils tried to trade Dillon at last year's NHL trade deadline, according to Dillion himself on Sportsnet's The Hockey PDOcast.
“But when Jersey came, I mean, I know there was interest in them at the trade deadline this year,” Dillon explained. “And of course, with Winnipeg, we had a solid season and they weren't going to get rid of any UFAs.”

Lindgren has a qualifying gift of $3.6 million. He is open to a long-term contract but it will be closer to $4 million.
Things are a mess with the Rangers and Jacob Trouba. It's his right to not want to go with a no-movement clause before July 1, and a list of 15 teams that can be traded after that. If they were able to trade him, next on their depth chart is Casey Fitzgerald and free agency also looks slim.
After next season, Alexis Lafrenière, K'Andre Miller, and Igor Shesterkin will need new, bigger deals, and keeping Trouba's $8 million would be a real challenge. It may be easier to sell Trouba after next year with only one year remaining. Also, the buyout would be a savings option of $4 million in 2025-26 and a total of $2 million in 2026-27.

The source said that Rangers were not happy with the purchase of Kaapo Kakko in relation to the draft as the teams wanted to buy less.
