The Spain manager is aware of the threat from England ahead of the Euro 2024 final
Luis de la Fuente is confident Spain will lift another European Championship title, but remains wary of the threat posed by England as they prepare for Sunday's final in Berlin.
Both teams won 2-1 in the semi-finals, but La Roja and the Three Lions have taken very different paths to the Euro 2024 showpiece.
Spain's impressive run of form, defeating big rivals such as Croatia, Italy, Germany and France, puts them as favorites to lift the trophy this weekend. However, De la Fuente acknowledges the uncertainty brought by the final, mindful of the challenges ahead.
“Maybe Spain gave us the best version so far in the final [than England]but that will not affect one game,” said the 63-year-old player to the media.
“England have players of the highest quality who can be seen at any time. We are facing a strong team full of experience, not only in terms of the national team, but also at club level. It will be difficult.
“Before the start of this tournament, England and France would have been the best, as well as Germany playing at home.
“We got the chance to continue winning those games [against the favourites] and now we have another big game. But we're looking forward to this one. We want to continue to grow. This group of players will continue to fight to try and win the cup.”
De la Fuente will have plenty of options at his disposal for Sunday's game, with reports suggesting Alvaro Morata will lead the attack. Additionally, Dani Carvajal and Robin Le Normand are expected to return from suspension, boosting the Spanish defense.
Despite their impressive performances earlier this week, it seems unlikely that Ollie Watkins and Cole Palmer will get starting spots for England. However, Luke Shaw is likely to start the game, and fans are hoping that he can repeat his previous finals performance in 2021.
