Man Utd have agreed a new contract for the experienced player who has played more than 100 international games
Manchester United have agreed a new contract with veteran defender Jonny Evans, the club announced on Friday.
Evans re-joined the Red Devils on a one-year deal last summer following a spell at Leicester City and was initially targeted to provide depth to Erik ten Hag's squad.
However, a string of injuries meant Evans played a more prominent role than he first expected, making 30 appearances in all competitions – including one from the bench in Man Utd's FA Cup final victory over rivals Manchester City.
All that proved enough to convince Man Utd to offer Evans another year at Old Trafford, with the 107-time Northern Ireland international 'happy' to stay at the club where he began his professional career.
“I am delighted to extend my contract at Manchester United for another season,” Evans told Manchester United's website.
“Playing for this great team and hearing the support of our amazing fans is always a privilege.
“Returning to the team last season was an honor; representing the team on the pitch with good teammates under a great manager.
“Winning the FA Cup together was something I will never forget; I know we can challenge for other trophies next season.”
Man Utd will begin pre-season preparations
Manchester United prepare for their first pre-season friendly of the summer as they face Norwegian giants Rosenborg away on Monday.
After that, they will face Rangers at Murrayfield on July 20 before traveling to the United States, where they will face Premier League side Arsenal and Liverpool, both sides facing La Liga side Real Betis.
The Red Devils begin their new campaign on August 10 as they face Premier League champions Manchester City at Wembley in the Community Shield.
