Ray Allen on Celtics: 'People need to give credit to Danny Ainge'

The Celtics were backed by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Both of these players were acquired by team president Danny Ainge, who was also responsible for adding Allen and Garnett to the Celtics in 2007. “People have to give credit to Danny Ainge,” Allen said. “Brad Stevens did a great job, but it can't happen without Danny sending Paul and Kevin to Brooklyn. That ensures the future of the Celtics. They will carry this team for the next 10 years.”

Making the Mikal Bridges trade happen was historic and incredibly unexpected. No one thought the Nets would ever agree.
But compared to that, completing a trade with Danny Ainge for a position of need wouldn't be a surprise. 😂 – 8:59 AM

Now, Thompson will begin a new chapter in Dallas. The Mavericks, led by the high-octane scoring of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, are out of the NBA Finals race, giving Thompson a real chance to enter the fifth ring. With the heavy workload expected of him, in his final years he could play a role similar to that of his idol Ray Allen, who won the title as the deadly shooter of the 2013 Miami Heat. But no matter how shaky his Mavs years are or how much he wins elsewhere, Thompson's mark on the Golden State Warriors will forever be etched in Bay Area lore. “He's one of the pillars of the dynasty,” Kerr said. “He's a unique person in that, and I think along with Steph and Draymond and Andre [Iguodala], I think these four guys are the Mount Rushmore of the Warriors race.” -via The Ringer / July 2, 2024

Jared Weiss: Team USA director Grant Hill went on SiriusXM with @TermineRadio and explained the decision to add Derrick White: “He's a guy who's used to playing with great players. He plays with two young stars in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. So he knows how to be a complimentary piece but also stand out in his role. And we obviously have a lot of star power in this group. But he's a guy that whether he sits two games or plays the fourth quarter, he's going to have a good mindset, he's going to be Derrick White.” – with Twitter @JaredWeissNBA / July 11, 2024

The 6-foot-8-inch Duke freshman, projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft, was in the lead on Sunday. He put Celtics guard Jrue Holiday in and scored on him. He hit a catch-and-shoot 3-pointer in the left corner before drilling one from the right arc over the outstretched arm of Lakers star Anthony Davis. He even went in and played an acrobatic game and converted a shot when he was fouled, causing gasps from many in the crowd. “You are special. Top talent,” said Celtics forward and Duke alumnus Jayson Tatum. “He plays very hard on both ends of the floor. He is tall, athletic, and can shoot. He can do all the things you want a No. 1 draft pick or the best player on your college team to do. So, I'm happy for him. I want him to stay healthy. I want him to bring the title to Duke.” -via Boston Globe / July 11, 2024

Jayson Tatum: “My first practice today at USA Basketball, one of the coaches came up to me and said they were impressed with my determination to dominate in all areas, even on nights when I wasn't shooting well. Hearing that meant a lot. Seeing that growth from the beginning of my career where I would shut down if I had a shooting night. ” -via YouTube / July 10, 2024
