Keyshawn Davis wants a Las Vegas main event fight against Frank Martin
THE world champion in lightweight Keyshawn Davis already knows for sure who he would like to face in his next fight.
The 25-year-old is a week removed from his last fight – a 10-round thriller against Miguel Madueno – which Davis, (11-0, 7 KOs), won well but was put under constant pressure. Davis also proved that he can handle bad things, especially during the end of the sixth round, which ended with Madueno shooting referee David Franciosi.
Never one to lack confidence, Davis took to his Instagram followers yesterday (July 12) and let them know what fight he wants to take on next.
“Frank Martin, we have to run that,” Davis said.
“No disrespect, let's fight. The fans want to see it. It would be a hell of a fight. It could be our biggest fight of the event. We can take that s**t to Vegas. You and I both did very well.”
“The time is now,” he continued. “There is no need for us to wait and prolong the time. The time is now, let's fight. Let's give the fans what they want to see. It doesn't have to be all that talk. It is respected. You are honorable, I am honored, let's continue, let's fight. We got the history. I want to fight Frank Martin.”
Last month, Martin (18-1, 12 KOs) faced his toughest job yet when he challenged Gervonta “Tank” Davis for the WBA lightweight world title. The fight ended in an eighth round victory for the champion, but all three judges had Davis by only one point (67-66) on the scorecards at the end.
Twelve months ago, Martin and Davis crossed swords in Las Vegas during the week of the Terence Crawford-Errol Spence Jr (Martin's boss) fight. It didn't take long for the conversation between the two to get heated and after a few minutes they were both arguing but Davis finished his work and planted.
Martin currently fights under the Premier Boxing Champions banner, while Davis plies his trade for Top Rank promotions.
