Lerato Dlamini-Tomoki Kameda Rematch Set for August 24 in Suita, Japan
Lerato Dlamini and Tomoki Kameda are back together.
The oft-delayed rematch is now set for August 24 at the Yamato Arena in Suita, Japan. Kameda Promotions and 3150 FIGHT have confirmed the event, which will air live on ABEMA-TV.
South African Dlamini (20-2, 11 knockouts) previously scored a twelve round, split decision over Kameda last October 7 in Tokyo. This rampage cost Kameda what would have been a huge win for the WBA featherweight title.
Early plans called for a Dlamini-Kameda rematch on March 31, although there was a condition that the fight be allowed to vacate the IBF featherweight belt. Not being able to get that position allowed Dlamini to activate the exit clause.
Kameda (40-4, 22 KOs) stayed on the show and stopped Kevin Villanueva (22-5-3, 15 KOs) after five rounds.
Dlamini was ordered to interview Arnold Khegai (21-1-1, 13 KOs). He attended the April 30 hearing, which was won by TGB Promotions. However, Khegai bailed when his team chose to sign with Top Rank.
That led Dlamini to review his plans for a fight with Kameda (41-4, 23 KOs), a former WBO bantamweight.
Dlamini has never fought since he started the war. His return to Japan marks the third trip among his four previous fights. He previously dropped a twelve-round decision to James 'Jazza' Dickens (33-5, 14 KOs) in Liverpool on October 22.
The winner of the title will be the mandatory challenger in the IBF featherweight list Luis Alberto Lopez (30-2, 17 KOs), No. 1 in 126.
Dlamini-Kameda II is now in line to defend Lopez's next title. Ring's No. 1 ranked featherweight next defends against Angelo Leo (24-1, 11 KOs) on Aug. 10 in his opponent's hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
