Spurs are battling to sign the £45m star who is Gallagher's alternative

After a campaign full of promise and disappointment, it will be an incredibly important summer for Tottenham Hotspur as they look to bring in the right players to support Ange Postecoglou's plan to lead the club to the top of the Premier League.

After a good start to the 2023/24 campaign, Spurs sit top of the league in one division, but ended the season in fifth place, 25 points clear of eventual champions Manchester City.

More additions are needed to plug the gap in Pep Guardiola's side, especially if the club are to have any chance of fulfilling Postecoglou's dream of winning a title with the North London outfit.

Archie Gray has already arrived at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a deal worth up to £40m, but it seems that Daniel Levy and Co are not stopping there, there are many names in the running for a move to the Lilywhites.

One player in particular has been heavily linked in recent days, who could be a key player in Spurs' midfield changes.

Tottenham transfer news

Since the conclusion of the previous Premier League campaign, Tottenham have been linked with a move to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher

The 24-year-old enjoyed a successful campaign under Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge last season, catching the eye of Postecoglou with his tenacious and tireless personality.

Unsurprisingly, as Gallagher is an English talent playing in the Premier League, he will cost a pretty penny, with Chelsea holding out for £50m to part with the academy star.

However, in recent days, this team has been linked with another midfielder to try to complete the renovation of the football field.

According to GIVEMESPORT, Spurs are interested in 24-year-old Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Serie A outfit Atalanta.

The in-demand talent has made 36 appearances in the league this season, scoring six goals, helping the club finish fourth and secure a place in the Champions League ahead of next campaign.

Atalanta midfielder Ederson

His best campaign in Italy has yet to be seen, with Premier League side Liverpool having recently submitted a €45m (£38m) bid for his services and remain interested in bringing him to Anfield.

Why Ederson could be a different Gallagher for Spurs

While both stars are undoubtedly very talented and have plenty of talent to improve Spurs' midfield, when you compare the two there is evidence that the Brazilian is the more complete player despite scoring fewer goals in all competitions than the current England international.

Analyzing the duo's statistics on FBref, Ederson revealed his best football skills, completing six consecutive passes – a number that could allow Spurs' attacking players to flourish further if the Atalanta star joins the club.

The “machine” in the middle of the field named by the writer Carlo Garganese, also achieved a high success rate of 27% and won aerial battles by 11% more than the Chelsea star, entering the endless program of Postecoglou.

Although they will face stiff competition from Liverpool for his signature, Spurs must work hard to land Ederson, who has all the quality to thrive in north London.

Atalanta star Ederson vs Bayer Leverkusen

With Atalanta seeking £45m to part with their midfield dynamo, he provides a cheap alternative to Gallagher, while allowing the Lilywhites to sign a top-class talent ready for England's top flight.

It would be a huge sum, but it would allow Postecoglou to finally complete his refurbishment of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.
