Aussie is shocked as Goodman brings up the injury and Danso starts to get angry

BOX moves fast and it's hard to keep up with everything that's happening. Here's a rundown of some of the fight announcements, signings and other bits that may have passed you by.

Bad luck for Goodman after defeating Thailand by points

SAM Goodman risked a potential future win against Naoya Inoue by facing Thachtana Lunagphon (aka Chainoi Worawut) in Wollongong last week. Goodman, 25, won a unanimous major decision by scores of 119-109, 117-113, and 117-111 to stay on track.

However, things did not go as planned as Goodman finally revealed that he injured his left hand at the beginning of the fight. Insisting that he is still looking for a deadline date with the 'Monster', Goodman may have some competition in the form of TJ Doheny who has also been mentioned as a possible opponent for Inoue in the future.

KO of Katsuma in the main event of Pro Box

LA Japanese southpaw Katsuma Akitsugi received a rare stoppage (only the second of his career) when opponent Jesus Ramirez Rubio was stopped in the ninth round of their Pro Box TV title fight. The exciting Nicklaus Flaz also recorded a stoppage as Alfredo Escarcega was finished in the fourth round.

Undefeated Najee Lopez hit the deck but did enough to defeat Steven Sumpter in eight rounds at light-heavyweight. There was no joy in traveling Englishman Tyler Goodjohn, who was knocked down numerous times and stopped in the second round by middleweight Weljon Mindoro.

Danso shocks Walters in Australia, writes Eric Armit

Emmanuel Danso pulled off an unexpected win when he held off Alex Walters in fifth place. Walters had more skills than Danso. He was very fast and passed Danso's guard with a glance, shooting from the hip and straight.

Danso wasn't quick enough to counter and Walters was in good control. In the fifth, Walters avoided Danso's right and scored two hard points of his own. As he went to press his attack again, he was met with a devastating short right that dropped him on his back.

He got up to his feet but the referee tripped and stopped the fight. Ghanaian “Kwhau Tyson” Danso is 0-2 in Australia, both of which have been early losses, but his 29 KO/TKO victories have shown that he can be dangerous. New Zealand-born Walters had won his last 7 fights, but both defeats came by distance.

Flash floods

  • Now a free agent, Shakur Stevenson is recruiting and has met with Golden Boy Promotions. The biggest fight to make would be Shakur vs. William Zepeda. Oscar De La Hoya says there is no deal unless Shakur signs a long-term deal with him.
  • Shakur previously reprimanded promoter Bob Arum for not fighting Vasyl Lomachenko. Bob finalizes a deal with the PBC for Loma to fight Gervonta Davis in Las Vegas at the end of 2024.
  • Although Golden Boy is vying for Shakur's signature (Floyd Mayweather has also expressed interest), one person who will stay with them in the future is Vergil Ortiz Jr, who has signed a contract extension.
  • Matchroom has announced the signing of Eduardo Hernandez to a multi-fight promotional deal. 'Rocky' is often in exciting battles. See his confrontations with O'Shaquie Foster and Daniel Lugo for proof.
