Man Utd give Tyrell Malacia injury update ahead of pre-season tour

Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia has returned to the club's Carrington stadium ahead of the Red Devils' pre-season games.

Malacia, who moved to Old Trafford in the summer of 2022 from Dutch side Feyenoord, last appeared for the club in May 2023 and missed all of last season with a serious knee injury.

His absence has had a major impact on manager Erik ten Hag, who has been forced to deal with injuries to Malacia and Luke Shaw, which often results in other players filling in at left back. The club are said to be in the market for a new defender this summer, with Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez among the options at the back.

Shaw is back, back in England for Euro 2024, but Malacia continues to fight for his long-awaited comeback.

United confirmed that Malacia returned to Carrington on Friday and has started working on his own. The left back is seen running and working with the ball at his feet.

United have not given an update on Malacia's possible return date. He will miss Monday's season opener against Rosenborg in Norway on Monday, and is unlikely to see minutes against the Rangers later that week.

The Red Devils have yet to reveal whether Malacia will be present for their trip to the United States, where they will face Arsenal, Real Betis and finally Liverpool on August 3.

Shaw will also miss the Rosenborg game due to his involvement in Sunday's Euro 2024 final alongside fellow midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
