Utah is open to trading their RFA defenseman

Craig Morgan: Utah is open to signing RFA defenseman Victor Soderstrom, but they're also open to trading him. He was drafted 11th overall in the 2019 NHL draft.

Soderstrom has pitched in 53 games over the past three years.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are active on three RFAs

Aaron Portzline of the Athletic: Columbus Blue Jackets forward and RFA forward Kirill Marchenko continue to talk about short-term and long-term deals. Marenko applied for wage compensation.

Marchenko and agent Dan Milstein want to work out a long-term deal but GM Don Waddell isn't sure yet.

An arbitration date is set for August 4, but Waddell hopes to have an agreement reached before then.

Waddell has begun negotiations with RFA players Cole Sillinger and Kent Johnson.

Teams are still waiting to talk to Patrik Laine

Aaron Portzline of the Athletic: Patrik Laine remains on the relief program. He has been asked to be traded but the teams want to talk to him before trading him, but no team is allowed when he is in the program.

“Teams keep checking to see if there's anything new,” said Waddell. “I tell them, 'You guys have to be comfortable with (Laine), and I can't help you.' I don't know this player. I am also not a person who would try to deceive people, so (we) made him available to talk (once he has been removed).”

While the draft and the start of free agency are often the best times to make a trade, Waddell said teams are still interested in Laine.
