The board approves the Checkers' transfer of majority ownership | TheAHL.com

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League's Board of Governors has granted approval for the transfer of birth control Charlotte Checkers franchise to Zawyer Sports & Entertainment.

Michael Kahnthe current CEO of the Checkers who have held majority ownership since 2006 and as a member of the AHL since 2010, will remain a minority partner.

“I would like to thank Michael Kahn for his excellent work managing the Charlotte Checkers in our league for the past 14 years,” he said. Scott Howson, President and CEO of the American Hockey League. “We are very happy to welcome you Andy Kaufmann and Zawyer Sports, and we look forward to working with him as he continues to build on the Checkers' success.”

Active since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top developmental league for all 32 National Hockey League teams. About 90 percent of today's NHL players graduated from the American Hockey League, and more than 7 million fans attend AHL games in North America each year.
