Jaylen Brown Calls Out Derrick White For Team USA Comments
Jaylen Brown says he called teammate Derrick White to clear up any “confusion” after publicly expressing his disappointment at missing Team USA.
Brown, who was named the Celtics' Finals MVP last month, was first left off the national team's roster and overlooked as a possible replacement for Kawhi Leonard, and White was selected.
“I called Derrick right away,” Brown told reporters Monday during the Celtics' NBA Summer League game against the Lakers in Vegas. “Making sure there is no confusion, my love for you and all that. He knew that, and he did. You don't have to make everything public all the time. D-White and I are good.”
After being passed over in favor of White, Brown sent out several cryptic tweets, including one suggesting that Nike athletes were being selected.
Asked about it again on Monday, Brown stuck to his stance on Nike, which sponsors USA basketball.
“There are many things that will come with that, but for now I will not comment on it,” he said.
Nike's comments aside, Brown's frustration at being left out of Team USA is understandable, considering he just won an NBA championship, and was named Finals MVP.
Then again, there are strong arguments to be made for a dedicated player like Derrick White, who will provide valuable contributions when minutes are available, and won't speak when he isn't.
