Jazz's Huge Ask From Warriors in Lauri Markkanen Trade Talks
The Jazz's asking price for Lauri Markkanen is reportedly a “non-starter” for the Warriors, who are the team most interested in acquiring the forward, NBA insider Shams Charania reports.
Golden State is offering Moses Moody, an upcoming draft pick in exchange, but Charania says the Jazz want more.
The franchise is also inquiring about young rising stars Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski.
The long-time player in the NBA then revealed hours later that Podziemski is the player who will move the needle the most for the Jazz.
“I don't think so [the Jazz] I want to remove Lauri Markkanen,” said Charania SiriusXM NBA Radio.“But if the Golden State Warriors get Brandin Podziemski and from what I'm told, three first-round picks, three or four unprotected pick swaps, three or four second-round picks…”
So, what about Kuminga? Shams was asked.
“It's hard to say but I think that, from everything I'm told, the Jazz are very focused on Brandin Podziemski and his inclusion in the contract,” said Charania. “All the nominees are in agreement. And I think from the Warriors' point of view, it's Podziemski, but not everyone gets picked and if it's everyone picked, there won't be Podziemski. “
The Dubs apparently refused to include Kuminga in Paul George's trade talks with the Clippers earlier this month.
The Warriors have been chasing Markkanen since July 1, but Shams says the teams may have reached an impasse.
“And this could be going back and forth, but both sides are stuck right now where they are, saying nothing will change,” said Charania. “So only time will tell. But I think the Jazz are very comfortable extending Lauri Markkanen.”
The 27-year-old will be eligible for an extension on August 6.
