Victor Ortiz ends a two-year layoff, facing Rodrigo Damian Coria on August 24 in Mexico City.

Victor Ortiz will return to the ring after a two-year layoff when he faces Argentine journeyman Rodrigo Damian Coria on August 24 at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico. The eight-round junior middleweight fight will be the main event of an exhibition match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and MMA fighter John Gotti III, headlining a card that will air live on DAZN.

Ortiz (33-7-3, 25 knockouts) of Ventura, Calif. he hasn't fought since May of 2022, when he went down against an unknown Todd Manuel to win a unanimous decision on the David Benavidez vs. David Lemieux.

The 37-year-old WBC welterweight champion has fought many top fights in the sport, defeating former champions Nate Campbell, Andre Berto and Vivian Harris, but his biggest fight came in 2011, where he lost four. Mayweather's rounds in a fight that will never be forgotten when Ortiz tried to shave his head on purpose which was quickly followed by a knockout.

Ortiz has fought just twice in the last six years, with his other fight being a unanimous decision loss to fellow former champion, Robert Guerrero, in August of 2021.

“Thank you my dear Mexico for bringing your son MORE! I am so grateful for all the support and the way they have welcomed me!,” Mexican-American Ortiz wrote on his Instagram account.

Coria (13-6, 2 KOs) of Cordoba, Argentina is a 25-year-old southpaw who lost a decision to Brian Norman Jr. and Peter Dobson, two of the most notable opponents he has faced to date. His biggest win came in August of 2023, when he won a split decision over undefeated Marco Garcia for the WBO Latino title at 154 pounds.

Coria last fought in February, losing a decision to Milan Prat in Paris.
