Riccardo Calafiori will travel to Bologna pre-season as Arsenal talks take hold
Riccardo Calafiori has been asked to attend pre-season training with Bologna while his move to Arsenal is pending, reports have revealed.
Although the Italian's move to north London has appeared to be on the cards in recent weeks, the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement for the Italian.
According to reports from The TimesBologna want £46m for Calafiori, while Arsenal have offered £37m for the defender.
The Gunners are also willing to use Jacob Kiwior as part of a swap deal to bring in Calafiori, but the Polish international wants to wait to move to AC Milan, rather than join Bologna, and is yet to give his consent.
Key to Bologna's stance is a sell-on clause with Calafiori's former employers Basel, with reports suggesting they should be close to 50% of the proceeds following his £3.4m move to Italy last summer.
Bologna will travel to Valles on July 22 for more pre-season friendlies as well, according to the report. Sky Sport Italia, have asked Calafiori to join them in the exit as there is no agreement yet regarding a summer exit. Meanwhile, Arsenal's pre-season games begin on July 25, when the team will travel to America to face Bournemouth.
Mikel Arteta's side may be without some of their biggest returning stars for Euro 2024, but the manager will have to do without Calafiori for now.
Arsenal's moves in the summer transfer window have been slow, with the signing of David Raya their only move so far. New Profit & Sustainability Rules have forced the club to be cautious about their signings, but Calafiori is still a player they want to cross the line.
It has not been revealed how Arteta would use Calafiori, who can play on the left or as a full-back, but it is thought that the manager could turn to the Italian as an inverted full-back.
