Ring Ratings Update: Jaron Ennis is now No. 1 at welterweight, ranking housecleaning begins

Jaron Ennis He returned on Saturday winning the welterweight title David Avanesyan after five completed rounds in front of more than 14,000 fans at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

Anson Wainwright suggested returning Gonzalez to the junior bantamweight division (he had been eliminated due to inactivity), but the majority of the panel disagreed for various reasons.

“Gonzalez stopped Barrera in the 10th and final round,” it said Wainwright. “The Return of the King! He may re-enter 115, although he has talked about moving up to bantamweight. His weight was only 116¾, so should we keep him at 115 for now?

Adam Abramowitz I didn't think so.

““I think it's wrong to bring Roman Gonzalez back at 115,” he said. “His fight this week is closer to 118 than 115.”

It is suggested Michael Montero: “Technically, Chocolatito's fight was at bantamweight so we have to balance it right there.”

Added Daisuke Sugiura: “I heard that Choco's plan is to take (Kosei) Tanaka the WBO 115-pound title rather than (the belt) 118, although (plans) can change. So, it's like Choco is a 115-pound fighter who is fighting at bantamweight for a comeback fight, but I don't know what we're supposed to do here. Just put him at 118 for now because he fought there and changed over time?

Even though he loved this four division champion, Tom Gray he did not agree to put Gonzalez at any weight.

“We have to be careful here,” he said. “Besides Doug, I'm the biggest Chocolatito fan out there. However, the youngster is 4-4 in his last eight games, against no one in recent years and has been stopped three times.

“Barrera is also a registered super flyweight, and is rated 131 by Boxrec, so why would we give Choc a bantamweight rating? This awakens a desire for what was once Roman.

“Let him take Kosei down – which I think he will – and give him a measure where he deserves it.

Added Abramowitz: “That's a good comment, Tom.”

Added Wainwright: “I saw Chocolatito come back at 115 despite the opponent.”

Answer it Gray: “For memory, if no guy does 115, then we don't rate ourselves at 115. Do we ever do that?

“It would be a nostalgia call, guys… Pacquiao-esque. And I get it; Chocolatito is a guy you'd love to cover in glory. It's not just winning that gets you in the rankings.”

Added to Your Favorite Senior Editor: “As much as I love Chocolatito, I agree with Tom's points. Gonzalez returned to bantamweight and fought a match but a mid-level contender. That won't get him rated at 115 or 118. He's a future first-ballot Hall of Famer, but he deserves a Ring ranking like everyone else.”

Added Abraham Gonzalez: “Agree with Tom and Adam. Let's stop Chocolatito's move for now.”

Added Wasim Mather: “I am also a fan of Chocolatito, but I support the decision to stop the movement for now.”

Added Diego Morilla: “For the same reasons that both Tom and Doug have already mentioned, I'm going to leave Chocolatito out for now. He's a big fan too, but the weight situation doesn't help.”

It ends Jake Donovan: “I agree with the majority to leave Chocolatito in both 118 and 115. If Nonito Donaire was No. 10 instead of No. You will be down in two weeks (inactivity) anyway; he can visit again at that time, although he does not guarantee that Chocolatito will be cut, as we all love him. Added Mather: “I fully support the decision to vacate the junior middleweight title. It's been two years, and it's time to keep things moving.”

Added Wainwright: “I agree again, I declare that the junior middleweight title is vacant.

“I've got a couple of guys who are going to come out for nothing (thanks to Brian) and I'll bring that up in our ratings on Sunday.”

Added Morilla: “Yes at 154-lb. the title is empty, no problem.

Added Gray: “Iron Man has turned to rust. 154 titles are vacant.”

“I have no problem with Jimenez coming in based on his Scrappy win,” he commented Donovan. “It looks like the opponent is entering twice (he is number 6 out of 112). I'd feel better if we could have some clarity on his next fight (I'll see what I can find).

Added Wainwright: “I don't like being double-edged, not a fan. However, Jimenez was our No. 10 but he came out to get (Juan Francisco) Estrada back into the rankings after losing Bam. I checked with Jimenez's team and they are still working on the next and are open to fighting at 115 and 112. “
