Spurs were recently shown to have their answer in Lamine Yamal vs Hearts

Despite missing out on Champions League football next season there is plenty to be excited about for Tottenham Hotspur.

They made a big splash during their first pre-season friendly against Hearts on Wednesday evening.

Fresh off the top of ITV and linked with the England space, Ange Postecoglou will no doubt be ringing in the ears.

The Aussie gave a classic answer when asked about those rumours. “I was awake at night. I have no idea…”

However, his team's performance against their Scottish side in Edinburgh will have given him a boost.

5-1 was the final scoreline, with a number of Spurs' young players outstanding in rare first-team appearances.

How the Spurs beat their hearts

There is no doubt that there will be tough tests for Postecoglou's side between now and the start of the season but it has been a good start as fans get glimpses of their future stars.

There was a Spurs debut for Archie Gray, signed from Leeds a few weeks ago and Lucas Bergvall, a young Swede who is being talked about as one of the best young midfielders.

So, who got the goals and who played well?

Brennan Johnson opened things up in the 39th minute but it didn't take long for Lawrence Shankland to equalize for Hearts.

The second half was much better as the Lilywhites emerged victorious thanks to some impressive performances from their young crop.

Youngsters Will Lankshear and Mike Moore gave the Londoners a two-goal lead before defenders Djed Spence and Ashley Phillips got on the scoresheet.

Spence has looked impressive since his return from loan in France, scoring an 8/10 performance in Football.London's Alasdair Gold hailed his “strong return to the club”.

No doubt there will be clamor for Spence to get more minutes now in the preseason, but he hasn't been the main talking point.

The Spurs gave a glimpse of their Yamal

Has a name ever taken the imagination of a great competitor like Lamine Yamal?

With Spain winning Euro 2024, the youth talent looked different, despite being just 16 years old for most of the competition.

It has been an incredible four weeks for the Barcelona player who picked up the Young Player of the Tournament award after scoring one goal – a beauty against France – and racking up four assists, more than any other player in Germany.

Why is it important here? However, in one of the Tottenham goals, the fans may have just caught their own Yamal.

That happened with one Moore, another 16-year-old who has been making noise, for all the right reasons, for the past few months.

Said to be Harry Kane's natural heir, the young attacker currently lacks the first-team experience that Yamal does but the Spaniard is a unique example. Let's be honest, no player should have one title for your country in that time, let alone 14 caps.

Moore may not be in the England squad any time soon but his record is impressive.

The striker – who can play anywhere or in a central position in attack – scored 16 goals in 16 official youth appearances last term, a form which has already seen him rewarded with two appearances from the bench in the Premier League.

He grabbed his goal against Hearts on Wednesday, driving into the box and finishing like a seasoned striker.

Like Yamal, Moore is no ordinary teenager. As scout Jacek Kulig calls him, he is a “special talent”, defying the odds to make an impact among the majors at such a young age.

Can he score consistently at the highest level? We will see soon.
