A top auteur offers a top machine tip – and reveals the one club he'll never stop using

Top beginner Luke Clanton believes that many golfers chop and change their clubs too freely.
He feels that in many cases players would be better suited to find the best clubs for them and stick with them.
“It's one of those things where I get a golf club and I like it, and I'm going to stick with it,” Clanton said, “because I'm comfortable with it and I know what it can do. I think if you're a fresher out there and want to keep changing, it's not a big deal sometimes. Find a golf club you like and make sure you have it.”
Clanton uses a mixed model set when it comes to irons. His set includes TaylorMade P7MB short irons (7-9) and P760 mid irons (4-6). He uses a P770 3-iron or a Stealth UDI 2-iron, depending on course conditions.
“I like low-iron blades because I can feel a little closer to the greens, and if I have a little shot from 150, I can hit a 7-iron there,” Clanton said. “It's one of the things where I like to hear a little bit about the lower instruments. Then with the above instruments I like to be a little more forgiving, especially if you hit it from 210. You don't really want the blade facing down, so it's a good arrangement for a while.
The TaylorMade BRNR 13.5-degree Mini Driver has quickly become his favorite.
“This club has been a lifesaver on the tee, and off the tee,” Clanton said. “…I think (the 2023 US Amateur) was right when he came out with the Mini Driver, and a bunch of my friends said I never liked the 3-wood because I never hit it, and it was true. I hit this (small driver) off the deck a few times and it flew well. Then I said, 'Let's hit it down,' and it flew 285-290 (yards) off the tee.
“I was like, this thing is so sweet,” he continued. “I've kept it in a bag ever since, and whether it's closed or whatever, it's been amazing. I think it's one of the best clubs I've ever gotten from TaylorMade. …I can take out the driver and put in BRNR and still play fine for a week.
“It's one of those golf clubs that you can hit long and hit it long, I can draw it, I can cut it, I can hit it low, I can hit it high. Definitely one of my favorites for sure… I don't think it will ever leave the bag. I really don't know.”
