Trent Alexander-Arnold has ruled out Jurgen Klopp's connection with the England job

Trent Alexander-Arnold has given an honest take on rumors linking former manager Jurgen Klopp with the vacant England job, after Gareth Southgate announced his plans to step down as manager.

Southgate's decision to resign came shortly after the end of the European Championships – where England missed out on a silver medal after losing 2-1 to Spain in the final of the tournament.

The list of possible replacements for the Three Lions boss is already extensive, with Liverpool legend Klopp filling a place on the shortlist.

However, Reds defender Alexander-Arnold believes it will come as a 'big surprise' if Klopp takes the England job – after opting to end his nine years at Anfield.

“I always enjoyed working with him,” Alexander-Arnold said a mirror. “We shared amazing memories, created an amazing relationship, an amazing bond.

“Then if that happens, we will continue where we left off. I would be surprised if he took it. It was clear when he announced when he was leaving, the conversations I had with him, everything. On social media, he seems to be enjoying his time off, so it would be a big surprise.”

While Klopp may not lead England to victory at the next international tournament, the German has accepted a new role with his former club – becoming the LFC Foundation's first honorary ambassador.

The FA have confirmed they will be looking for a replacement for Southgate as soon as possible, in a bid to find the right man for the job ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
