Golf Business News – Newquay GC invests in John Deere satellite-guided sprinkler

Newquay Golf Club in Cornwall has become the first club in south-west England to invest in a John Deere satellite-guided sprinkler to help keep its course in the best possible condition.

Newquay Golf Club took delivery of a John Deere HD200 ProGator precision sprayer earlier this month after identifying the machine as a tool to cut costs and improve its environmental profile.

This high quality unit is the first to be installed in the region and has been supplied by local dealer Masons Kings.

Treasurer Dan Kendle said the purchase was about sustainability.

“We like to keep up with developments in technology because it can make us work better and do things more accurately,” he said. “Sustainability is a big thing on golf courses as far as I'm concerned and the GPS functionality in the sprinkler allows us to be more targeted in our programs and thus reduce the impact on the environment. In the long run, it will enable us to use fewer chemicals, less water and save on fuel and time which are also big points.”

John Deere's GPS sprayer is at the forefront of modern golf course maintenance, promising to improve application accuracy when applying fungicides, herbicides or nutrients to boxes, fairways and greens.

The HD200 ProGator is packed with advanced features including autosteer, data logging, and independent nozzle control that automatically shuts off when the sprayer boom reaches a set boundary.

These new methods ensure efficient and environmentally friendly operation, enabling precise treatment and reducing waste by avoiding spraying unintended areas such as bunkers and hedges.

Masons Kings dedicated Integrating Technologies team installed Dan and the club's greens staff, ensuring the sprayer is fully operational and ready to deliver top performance.

Kendle added: “We are very grateful for the support from the entire Masons Kings team who have been instrumental in bringing this game changer to Newquay Golf Club.”
